The Level 3 Award in Education and Training (AET)—formerly known as PTLLS—is a nationally accredited introductory teaching qualification designed for anyone wanting to start a career as a teacher, trainer, or tutor in adult education or the further education (FE) sector.
What You Will Learn
The course is worth 12 credits and is broken down into three core units:
Roles and Responsibilities: Understanding the roles, responsibilities, and relationships in education and training.
Inclusive Practice: Learning how to plan, deliver, and use inclusive teaching and learning approaches to meet individual learners' needs.
Assessment: Understanding the principles, methods, and practices of assessment, including how to give constructive feedback.
How You Are Assessed
Written Assignments: Three short written tasks (one for each unit).
Micro-Teach: A brief, 15-minute practical teaching session on a subject of your choice, accompanied by a basic lesson plan and self-evaluation. (No prior teaching placement or live classroom of real students is required to pass).
Course Requirements & Delivery
Entry Requirements: No prior qualifications or teaching experience are needed; just a passion for your subject and a desire to teach.
Duration: Can be completed via intensive 2-to-4 day classroom/online blocks, part-time evening classes over a few weeks, or flexibly via self-paced distance learning (with up to 12 months access).
